I don't mind volunteering my time - it's my hobby - I like doing it,
but I'm not about to pay to volunteer. I learned a valuable lesson
with my experience with
Scioto.org a privately owned site that went
belly up, and it was necessary to rebuild the sites for Scioto County
and Lawrence counties. If it were not for waybackmachine all of the
data on
Scioto.org would be gone - lost - no more -
If I drop dead today, Scioto and Lawrence counties will still be
available thanks to RootsWeb. There's no fear of the sites being
closed because there's no one around to pay the bill, all Sandy has to
do is find a new admin -- and the sites will go on.
I want my hard earned research to remain available to everyone for
free even if I'm not around.
My two cents -- thanks for the soapbox.

I agree... Every couple of years, these histrionics start up,

RW has been kind enough to furnish us with free space for all these
years and now they are putting little banners up on the pages. I also
don't have a problem with this. My lord folks, it's *FREE* space that
they allow us to use. I don't see how that little blurb top or bottom
or both detracts from my sites. And I have several on RW. As a matter
of fact, I have my own domain, and choose to put most of my material
on RW space. Geez.. get a grip... It's not the end of the world!!!
