Subject: Copyright Fundamentals for Genealogy, Ohio
Allen,
I had attempted to start this out by contacting individual county GenWeb
coordinators in Nebraska. Before I was done, one of the county
coordinators, someone who was familiar with some of my work, had contacted
me and offered to contact the rest of the coordinators in the state. She
also suggested that I contact the state coordinators instead of the
coordinators for the individual counties.
What I am doing is offering free reprint rights and re-distribution rights
for an article I've written. Please take a look at it and, if you think it
has value, let your county coordinators know about it.
(The following text was what I started sending out to the individual county
coordinators.)
Often, in genealogy, questions related to copyright arise. For several
years, I've had a website where I tried to answer many of those questions
and I've actively participated in the discussions on the copyright-l mailing
list at RootsWeb. More recently, I've been writing articles based on what
I've learned about copyright, which I am also posting online. My most
recent article is intended to apply some basics of copyright to genealogy
related issues.
"Copyright Fundamentals for Genealogy," was specifically written to grant
free reprint and redistribution rights. It is located at:
http://www.stellar-one.com/copyright_concepts/fundamentals_gene.htm .
Please feel free to use the article for any genealogy related use, such as:
- your own website (with its look and feel),
- email to others,
- genealogy or historical society newsletter,
- as a free handout at libraries
The only restrictions that I have for its use is that its text is not edited
or altered and, if used in a website, that a link is provided back to my
copyright website.
Thanks
Mike Goad
