I wrote about the Bylaws revision that defines "Members of The USGenWeb" to
which Scott replied:
Where does this proposal come from?
Well, it isn't
practical in an org the size of the USGenWeb to have an open
list where all subscribers create rules and revisions by their compiled
input, as could be done successfully here, so we have The Bylaws Revision
Committee (BRC). Committee members are appointed by the NC. The BRC invites
all USGenWeb members to directly participate in feedback related to
revisions of the bylaws. They can also be discussed on the USGenWeb-Discuss
list, where many if not all, of the BRC members are subscribed, and can
take the comments into consideration.
It is very important that when it comes time to vote for revisions, that
the members read and fully understand them. For instance, there is a
revision that for the first time defines Coordinators, Co-Coordinators, and
Assistant Coordinators; that an SC appoints Coordinator-nominated Co and
Assistant Coordinators; that there can be only one Co-Coordinator; and who
can vote in National affairs:
"Local Project Coordinators are authorized to nominate one Local Project
Co-Coordinator and as many Assistant Coordinators as desired for
appointment by the State Coordinator. State Coordinators may reject
nominees only for valid cause. Local Projects are limited to one Local
Project Coordinator and one Local Project Co-Coordinator, if desired, who
will each have full voting rights within The USGenWeb Project. Assistant
Local Project Coordinators shall not have national voting rights."
When can we expect to see it on the USGenWeb ballot?
That, I
don't know.
The BRC lives at
http://home.mchsi.com/~sagitta56/index.htm and Revisions
are stashed under the "Guidance from the PA" link, there's also good stuff
under the "FAQ" link such as a note about a 2/3 majority rule.
An OHGenWebie who wants to be knowledgeable about What's Going On, has a
formidable task. There is at the least:
