QUICK TIP:
If you are hosting your site on Rootsweb, you can add the following code to
your pages and it will automatically update the last time you uploaded a
file.
Last updated: <!--#echo var="LAST_MODIFIED"-->
Take a look at Clermont County. I have it at the bottom of every page and
everytime I upload an edit, it changes. So I never have to worry about
doing it manually. It saves LOADS of time.

Charles,
I think your missing the point of having the current year
somewhere on the page. It's not so much as letting your
visitors know what the current year is, it is more to let
those visitors know that the site has at least been updated
sometime in the last year. I didn't take Sandra as saying we
need to just put the date on the page but that in someway it
should be included as a "last updated" notice or copyright notice.
I tend to update all my pages with a copyright notice every
year which includes the current year as well as the last time
a page has been updated. Even if the content hasn't changed,
a current copyright date would appear that you have at least
visited the page to make sure it still works. Visitors just
want to feel like they are looking at a site that has not
been sitting there unchanged for a few years.
I don't think you have to do this to every page, just your
main index page. I'm well aware that a lot of data on a site
is never going to change but the main page is the one
everyone sees first and it should at least give the
appearance of being current.
