Shannon please read my previous follow up email on the list to all the
CC's.
You are right, data is an important part of the genweb project. It is
why people visit our sites.
My ASC and I currently have found sites with extinct webmasters,
webpages that are actually being used for genealogy societies, sites
linked to off site websites which no longer exist, and sites that have
not been updated since genconnect/ gendex was used.
Lorraine and I are working feverishly to get the OHGenWeb project back
in line. My expectations are simple as previously outlined in my emails.
1. _Site must have_ the *current year* on the index page and *current
email* addresses and *working links*.
2. _Site must follow_ the *CC guidelines* set by the National Coordinator.
3. *USGenWeb* and *OHGenWeb* _must be prominently displayed_.
I am hoping that the *Award* system will cause _everyone_ to at least
take a_ look at their own site_ and _see what needs improved_. Things
have changed a lot on the internet in the last 9 years and we need to
try to keep up with the changes.
Those with a true interest in their county will continue to provide free
genealogy research to their researchers in whatever ways they can. With
the passing of time the internet has become user friendly and we have so
much to share with each other and it is done so easily now-a-days.
Thanks for writing! It is not my wish to offend any of the county
webmasters, but just remind them, we all do have guidelines to follow
for our sites...

I wasn't going to write as others have expressed my interest. If
you want us
to be cookie cutters, I'm out of here. I work in another state where
requirements are out of hand with each new state coordinator having to add
their stamp on the project by adding another requirement. We now have to add
new non-random transcribed data twice a year or we are out of there.
My point is every county is different, some have more data that we can add,
some have copyrighted material that we can't copy.
Even then people don't read. They use the search for their taxes, I tell
them right there this isn't the county site with their taxes. Then when I
get the report I see they have indeed searched for their taxes.
Some also only research in one Ohio county so what good would
standardization do?
Just my two cents.
