Denny,
Roadrunner here in columbus made us get new modems.
Dave and I were grumbling about the trouble but once
we had the new one all my weird connect problems went
away. Course our modem goes back to 1998.

Chryl,
I was having problems this weekend trying to get into a few sites and my
mail. I have mail accounts with Road Runner and Dreamhost so if I am
experiencing problems with both there is a larger problem. I could get
into Google and searches worked fine but when trying to pull up many of
those results they timed out. It didn't seem to affect my access to
Google but since many sites as well as my mail was affected, I just
assumed there was an internet backlog of some sorts and by the end of
the day every thing was back to normal.
It is very hard to try and determine the cause of these types of
problems. They especially tend to crop up right after Xmas when everyone
who got a new computer is trying it out. Could be disruptions in the
lines, sun spots, or whatever. It's not a perfect system and surely not
immune to physical and environmental problems but it's much better than
what it used to be. We just have to learn to live with the slow downs
and it doesn't hurt to call your ISP to see if they are experiencing any
problems.

Thank you Denny,
It's working now. I had problems all weekend and this included Ancestry
and
both concurrently. Unfortunately I couldn't get to anything on their
server, not even their FAQ page. Also the mail I sent early this morning to
the list just got back to my email server an hour ago but I was receiving
other email that was not related to Rootsweb. So several things were
affected. When I did get connected the FAQ page reported no recent
problems. Last problem was 10/13 with Archiver having hardware issues.
They are the only two sites I have had connection problems with in the past
couple days. I would think if it were a local problem that more than just
those two would be affected. Just seems funny that both Ancestry & Rootsweb
were having problems at the same time. It's up now and I have reported the
problems. But thank you for responding.

Chyrl,
Must have been a temporary thing. I can get in fine. Could be just a
localized internet problem as well. Anytime you are having a problem
with Rootsweb, try their FAQ page. They have many servers and any
trouble is usually only with one of them. If you can't get to anything
at Rootsweb then I would suspect something more localized.
