Sandy,
My Dreamhost site never had a problem nor did my email account through
them. What I was saying was that since I was having a problem with both
Roadrunner and Dreamhost there was something else like a log jam going
on on the internet that was causing the problem. So far I am extremely
happy with Dreamhost, probably will stay that way until I have to start
paying for it.
Temporary internet slow downs and lockouts are going to be around and we
all have to get used to them. As I said they are hard to pin point a
specific cause but before pointing fingers at a specific provider or
site like Rootsweb, it's best to wait at least a day to see if things
clear up. I know it's hard to wait sometimes when you are really looking
for something and expect things to work as they always have but consider
those days when everything is working flawlessly to be a gift and slow
downs and outages are the norm and it is a little easier to shrug it off
and wait out the problem.
It would be nice if every provider was like Rootsweb and had multiple
servers to handle different parts of the business and had a staff that
actually planned things out but sometimes even Rootsweb can't control
someone digging in the wrong place and severing a fiber optic cable
cutting off access to the rest of the world. It's hard to let people
know there is a problem when you can't communicate with them.

Denny, I have a Dreamhost server account also and I had no access for
several hours, I ftp files for my business and was unable to get any work done. At first
I thought it was my computer but when I came back to it later in the day, I tried again
and had access so it was definitely something going on at the server end. However I was
not notified of any maintenance time period which rootsweb usually does.

>>It's working now. I had problems all weekend and this included Ancestry and
both concurrently. Unfortunately I couldn't get to anything on their server, not even
their FAQ page. Also the mail I sent early this morning to the list just got back to my
email server an hour ago but I was receiving other email that was not related to Rootsweb.
So several things were affected. When I did get connected the FAQ page reported no
recent problems. Last problem was 10/13 with Archiver having hardware issues. They are
the only two sites I have had connection problems with in the past couple days. I would
think if it were a local problem that more than just those two would be affected. Just
seems funny that both Ancestry & Rootsweb were having problems at the same time.
It's up now and I have reported the problems. But thank you for responding.
