Sorry to hear that IE 7 didn't work so well for you Chyrl. Sounds like you
had a mess on your hands.
I downloaded the beta version of IE 7 about 6 months ago and have not have
any issues. I will say that it took some time to get accustomed to it and
the features that were new to me. I noted that the default security
settings did block *entry* into some sites or *navigation within* some
sites, but once those were adjusted that issue went away. I have not had
any crashing problems. MSFT cautions that if you are not using XP with
SP2 - IE 7 will not work. Those users will probably find FF a better
alternative.
I'm sure there will be various opinions re: this new tool - and I agree with
those who suggest that new releases by MSFT are often "buggy" - but it does
appear to be progress. Is MSFT attempting to leverage users of the old op
systems to upgrade? I'm sure they are.

Like Dick Eastman, I installed IE 7 on my computer a couple months
ago.
What a disaster as it didn't open several websites and I had constant
problems with it not responding and shutting down. After two months of
headaches using it, I uninstalled it and went back to IE 6.01. So I hate
to see that they are going to force a horrible program on everyone. I
guess, even though I don't particularly like Firefox, it certainly was a
alternative to the headaches that IE 7 caused with the computer. So if
you don't have Firefox and you have Windows XP which will force you
eventually into IE 7 Beta, I suggest you down load Firefox.
