Hi, Chryl!
1. The USGenWeb bylaws state "The state project shall have the
responsibility to remove any links to websites which fail to meet The
USGenWeb Project/XXGenWeb Project established guidelines/standards." Since
OHGenWeb has no procedures in place for this process, and since the SC is
the overseer of the state project, then, logically, that decision would fall
solely on the SC. That is why we need to devise our own by-laws to spell
out in black & white who does what.
2. All OHGenWeb CC's are required to subscribe to this list. If a CC does
not pay any attention to the official OHGenWeb correspondences, then I would
question that CC's dedication to the project and his fitness to be a CC.
3. Given the way some in the project love to bicker over insignificant
details, coming up with bylaws could take forever. Deadlines would have to
be set for each step of the process. (e.g. appoint a committee - accept
suggestions from CC's until a certain date - committee has to come up with a
draft by a certain date - accept discussion of the draft until a certain
date, etc.)
4. Sorry, Chryl. I am dedicated to the OHGenWeb project, but not dedicated
enough to spend hours upon hours analyzing all of the other state projects.
And I wouldn't want to "emulate" anyone. OHGenWeb should pass along as
much
pertinent information as we can get our hands on so that every Ohio county
site will be "central repositories of historical and genealogical research
data."

Subject: [OHGEN] Questions to Candidates
Questions with regards to Bad Sites and By-Laws
I see, in my personal view, quite a few bad sites on USGenWeb. But a bad
site to me is also defined by the individual viewer. That said I have a few
questions on that issue for the canidates which also involves IMO
establishing State Project By-laws which I included a couple of questions
for you on.
1. As a SC, do you think that the SC has the sole authority on what does or
does not meet Site Standards? Or do you think that the project should set up
By-Laws defining Site Standards, which are then voted on by the CC's before
a SC starts de-linking sights from the project?
2. In regards to the comment that some volunteers did not respond to roll
calls, some volunteers have chosen to not participate in the votes,
discussions, etc on the Project board. Some just wanted to volunteer to
maintain a website within the project. That in mind, do you think
considering how difficult it is to find volunteers, that these individuals
should be forced to participate in votes and/or discussions?
3. Since it seems in the past it has been very difficult to get by-laws
written for the project due to individual's schedules. How, as the new SC,
would you expedite this process?
4. Keeping in mind your definition of bad sites, could you give an example
of a USGenWeb State project in which you would like the OHGenWeb to emulate?
And why, in your opinion, this Project is sets itself apart from other State
projects.
Thank you,
Chyrl Lawrence-Bulger
