Sandy,
After looking at Linda's info, and the fact Wm was in WWII and also he left
Ohio to attend college in Kentucky. His mother was a single parent, and he
was an Actor/Director on WWII registration, more than likely he did not come
back to Ohio. Where do want to be Actors go? Hollywood or New York.
Although there are tons of Wm Andrew Smiths across the country, I did
located this obit in California Newspaper in Santa Barbara which is of
course near Hollywood.

SMITH, Andrew William
Long-time Corona del Mar resident, died of a heart attack while diving off
Cluster Point, Santa Rosa Island, Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005.
Andy was known throughout the California coast as an expert commercial diver
for the last 35 years.
He was a graduate of Newport Harbor High School (Class of 1962), Orange
Coast College, and the University of California at Santa Barbara with a
degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Andy was the grandson of Colonel Andy Smith, Newport Beach City Councilman
and mayor in the 1950's. Andy was the son of William Andrew Smith and
Genevieve Smith. His father was a WW II B-17 bomber pilot who was killed in
a plane crash in 1946.
Andy - nicknamed "Panda" - is survived by his mother, Genevieve of Corona
del Mar; his brother, Ray Smith of Marina; his sister, Jean Kirby of
Wrightwood; his nephew, Colin Smith of San Diego and many, many dear
friends.
He was much loved and will be fondly remembered for his colorful, unique,
positive and caring personality.
His mother will host a Celebration of Life in Andy's honor Saturday, March
12, 2005 at her home on Ocean Blvd. in Corona del Mar.
Now, since my Father was career Air Force for 30 years, he has always stated
that if someone wanted to find him they can easily do so. All the
individual has to know is what branch of the military they were in, and its
helpful to have their unit number and any other info you might be able to
give them, write that Military Branch personnel dept and they can forward a
letter to that individual. They will not tell you their address, but will
forward correspondence onto them to their last known address. Now this may
only apply to Retired military personnel, as they renew their military ID's.
May not apply to Veterans. But I take it the person really doesn't know how
long the man stayed in. He could have made a career out of it. But even if
she has a unit number, she might find something on the web where people who
served in that unit have registered. Like
classmates.com. Maybe someone
from the unit might know of his family.
That's about all I can add to her search. I have to get to work at my real
job!
