/People's lives will never be the same, history and genealogy of New Orleans may be
lost forever and for other coastal towns hit by Katrina. The state list is discussing
whether or not all Louisianna parish USGenWeb coordinators have been heard from. Many do
not live in the area, but of those who do they have not been heard from.
I am sharing an email I just received with you all from my best friend, Janalee Mourn, she
is a rocket scientist for NASA. She was born and raised in Athens county, Ohio. She sent
me this email earlier today, my notes are in italic:

Houston Texas-
Sandy,
Yes the crime will be high here but I am sure they will bring the New Orleans police here
to command the people.
It is heart breaking to think people were so poor that they couldn't escape Katrina.
I will let the agency know you are willing to take in survivors when they call me.
I think right now the two couples I am taking in are traveling here to Houston.
Also the ones coming from New Orleans at Michoud only way out of there is by helicopter or
boat this is so tragic.
Going to forward u an email I got that shows before and after shots of the city.
Leland finally called last night she said they are okay but are running out of food, the
stores are only open for so long. Where we used to live, it is gone. There is no more
Fouchon area./(Leland Pitts also our girlfriend originally from Athens county, Ohio lives
near Baton Rouge, Louisianna and owns a marina and boat sales there with her husband Steve
and five children)/
I will be here at my desk tried to call u a few times on your cell just get your answering
machine.
Please say a prayer. We are only 15 min from the dome area.
I got a lot in the car to donate but they do not want us going to the dome we are to take
it to a staging station.
It is overwhelming how many in the city are helping and volunteering their time. But the
poor here are fuming that they are starving and the city does nothing for them.
I am heart broken that our president cannot get more help to get the people out of that
area. People are still in hotels and hospitals one doctor said they are losing patients
and the others are starving including himself there is no food. Have women ready to
deliver and there is no way to scrub for c sections or even be able to sedate.
Sandy this is a Hell on Earth is what they are calling it. Would rather take my chances
in snow in Ohio any day. Is Brandon better? Figured he would be on his way down to help.
/
(Brandon, my son is a paramedic. He traveled to Sri Lanka for that disaster, but was ill
when Katrina hit.)/
Love ya
Janalee

This will effect all of us in some way or another. It is time to do what we can for those
in dire need.
