Subject: [USGENWEB-DISCUSS] AB Acting beyond authority
RE:

I urge all members to contact their representatives immediately to
urge those representatives to vote "NO" on the above proposed motion.
There are three very important reasons the membership should be
opposed to this motion, and indeed concerned about it:
1. The bylaws provide that amendments be state-sponsored. Only one
provision is allowed for the AB alone to place an amendment directly
on a ballot, bypassing the states. Conveniently, that sentence was
omitted from the motion. It reads:
**Section 5. In the case of an urgent matter affecting the well-being
of The USGenWeb Project, the Advisory Board may propose an amendment
and disseminate it to the membership without the required
co-sponsorship.**
2. Therefore, in order for the AB to place an amendment directly on a
ballot without state sponsorship, the amendment must concern an
urgent matter.
I submit that this amendment is *anything* but urgent. The subject
has been under discussion for ....I've lost track of the months....,
and the project has been without this amendment for ten years now. It
is absurd to think this is an urgent situation, and saying it is
urgent does not make it urgent.
3. By pushing a non-urgent amendment on a ballot without
consideration of the states/membership, the AB is setting horrible
precedence, as well as showing it's disdain and lack of respect for
the membership.
This motion is a gross over-stepping of AB authority, and all project
members should be concerned.
I urge all members to contact their representative(s) immediately:
