Holly,
We would have to try it and maybe educate the group a bit before any
effort. The way I see it, someone would request to be heard through a
private channel and when recognized would have the floor and be able to
post his/her comments in the room as long as they have the floor. As
with any large group, not everyone can speak at once and if they try,
they can be squelched by the monitor.
If it was handled like most chat rooms with everyone just posting
messages one after another it would not work but set up properly with a
set of meeting rules and guidelines I think it would. Won't know unless
we try it. There is also VOI (Voice over Internet) tele-conferencing
although I don't know how that would work with a large group and not
everyone is set up for that while everyone could get into a chat room.

Chat room meetings are possible although the larger the group, the more
difficult they are. I have rarely seen a business type meeting be
successful with more than 4 or 5 people. It also makes a difference how
experienced those present are with chat rooms. By the way, many of those
who hang around a chat room are multi tasking and simply ready to help
or talk with someone who stops by, not such a waste of time after all.
