And what happens if the unthinkable happens? No one is bullet proof and
I would rather have the list stay where it is as we have no issues with
Rootsweb's mail lists. Just because someone may not appreciate what they
have done with the web sites, nothing is changing in the mail lists. No
ads, no cost, no problems. All rumors to that effect are just that,
rumors. If sometime in the future that changes, then I would be open to
making a change but there is absolutely no reason to now.
Sandy says the question seems to be "why are we staying?" We gain
nothing by changing. Mailman is Mailman whether it be on Rootsweb or
Dales's server. We will not get any additional benefits from a change.
If we stay where we are, no one will have to change any of their filters
or resubscribe. We will have no concern over whether Dale's server will
ever go away. Dale, as much as you want to believe that your server is
never going to go anywhere, God forbid if you died (hope your around a
long, long time), what would happen to it? Rootsweb is not going
anywhere and there is no threat or chance it will.
Other mail services have been suggested like Yahoo and Google. That
opens up a whole new keg of worms and things would definitely change and
not for the better. Mailman is the best service I have seen and since
that is what powers Rootsweb and we have no problems with it, let well
enough alone.
We should never make decisions on our website and mail servers based on
a company's business practices unless they infringe on us. The banners
they added were a very, very minor infringement and so far there is
nothing like that planned for any of the mail lists. We do not need an
additional list so there is no reason to petition Rootsweb for another
and any other problems with Rootsweb like getting passwords for inactive
county sites again has nothing to do with this list.

What happens after me?
I have already stated that when my term is done, I will continue to host
OHGenWeb at no charge.
I don't care much for Yahoo, but Google would be more desirable than
Rootsweb. (personal preference)
It's a prediction based on how business operates.
