Denny DID do a great explanation for RWs lists and Joan is correct that
RW has granted some lists without archives. I admin one such, thus I
suggest that if that is what the group wants [the real issue here] then
petition RW/Ancestry's listmaster, rather than establish yet another list.

I do know that RootsWeb has mailing lists that are closed to the
public in that they have no archives. What I don't know is if an
established list can discontinue the archives and that would be a
question to address to the listmaster of RootsWeb.
