Sandy,
I am extremely disappointed to see that you deleted the link to the Ohio
census data at
ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/oh/ entirely
rather than considering the suggestion to merely put the links to the
two census projects on equal footing as:
* Ohio Census Transcriptions (
rootsweb.com)
* Ohio Census Transcriptions (
us-census.org)
There are census transcriptions in each that do not appear in the other,
and Ohio researchers certainly lose out not having a link to both
projects. And, yes, we do all have opinions as to which one we think
legitimately corresponds to the one outlined in the national bylaws.
I'm increasingly sensing a Rootsweb bias on your part. You previously
wrote, "I would like to take the OHGenWeb site back home to rootsweb
server." Back home? Since this same sentiment has appeared a few times
now, I would like to add that while an SC ought to be able to place the
state page they maintain wherever it is reliable and convenient for them
to update, our state page does not necessarily belong on Rootsweb. Any
future SCs should be able to move the page wherever they prefer. Like
you, I do take advantage of the web space offered by Rootsweb, but the
"home" of OHGenWeb is wherever we make it. We are not a Rootsweb
project. We're supposed to be an independent genealogy project, and
OHGenWeb has not somehow been unfortunately absent from its Rootsweb
home while Allen as SC. His server was a good a home as any for our
state page.
Thanks.

Okay Gang, the site is ready for you to link to.
I will be requesting Allen take down the other
Scioto.org one.
We are now:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgenweb
Thank you for your patience as I went through a process of getting our
Ohio page back on the rootsweb server. This should make it a whole lot
easier for any future transitions between elected SC's.
Also, I really appreciated the overwhelming response to my emails about
the site design, and links. Thank you to all of you "My Team"!
I especially wish to thank David Koester (Allen county) who assissted me
with his technical expertise and who spent hours literally working on
the page with me and helping me figure out that part of the layout
problem was the Firefox browser I was using instead of Microsoft
Internet Explorer. Also, thank you to my cousin Nola Rogers (Licking
county CC) with her many Ohio link ideas, and to my ASC Lorraine Newsome
who is extremely organized and on the ball with everything!
Way to go everyone!
Another thank you to Allen Richmond our previous SC!!!
Join me in welcoming Don Kear as the new Putnam County CC.
My email is: ohgen(a)alltel.net
