Cynthia,
If you resize the images to the sizes you have specified in your code,
they will look infinitely better.
When you upload a large picture and then reduce it by the size tags in the
code, you are relying on the visitor's browser to resize the picture. And
browsers are not designed to do that.
I would also resize the original to no larger than 800 px in height. That
way the whole image will fit on most screens without the browser resizing
it for you.
If you don't have an image program, FastStone is a good one. Google
faststone image to find it. It's free.

Hello Ohio GenWebbers,
I have put some photographs on my Lake County front page for the
first time. I have encountered some problems.
IE - The photos look terrible in Internet Explorer. They have a sort of
pixilated appearance with extra diagonal decorations added. When you
click on the photo it goes to a larger version but that too, has the same
appearance. The lines are jagged, etc. To click on that larger image,
it becomes giant but the image is beautiful. The hover captions work
fine in IE.
GoogleChrome - The photos "click in" and look beautiful. To click on it
brings up a gorgeous image, nearly full screen, much bigger than IE
gives. But the hover captions do not work.
Firefox - The photos are not so great. To click on one brings up a
better, but not good photo, but the magnified version is fine. The hover
captions do not work here, either.
I have been using straight HTML coding, no page creators, and I
am not sure what to do with this. Something is obviously wrong, or maybe
it is the browsers. I thought maybe the images were too large, so I
resized the Kirtland Temple and it does not seem to have helped. Perhaps
I need to reduce it more? The page took me over 90 seconds to load, so I
probably will resize them anyway, at least to Find-A-Grave
specifications.
I am not very good with the terminology or the technology, but
any suggestions welcome. Thanks!
Cynthia Turk
