Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
The copyright issue and bringing a page into compliance was discussed
last month. Seems to me that everybody has had plenty of time fix up
what needed to done.

Ok.... I was not going to vote since there seemed to be no reason to
since only Dale is running. However, perhaps I will just to see how
Coshocton and Ashland are considered. I think it is a little unkind to
be telling people when they go to vote. Perhaps a different approach
would have been to let the folks whose pages were not up to what is
demanded know that before they went to vote and then they could correct
anything.
LOL-Now how do I vote? I think I deleted the email.
We need all the volunteers we can get :o)
Sheila
Holly,
How did you discover you are not allowed to vote? Did someone send you
an email?
I have the copyright on the main page but not on the splash page.
I maintain a splash page that can always be linked to. I sometimes move
around and change the main page.

Arne,
Don't feel alone, I am also not allowed to vote although the Cuyahoga page
has a copyright statement and a date of last edited, the arrangement is not
good enough for the page police. I have had this same copyright statement
and last edited date format since the beginning of this project in Kentucky
and have voted in numerous elections all this time. I suppose, in
retrospect, all those votes are invalidated and any service I gave USGenWeb
wiped out including being part of the committee that established the
election committee ... perhaps I should have been run out of the project
long long ago.

Subject: [OHGENWEB] Ohio GenWeb
I've just learned that I'm not eligible to vote because my home page is not
copyrighted and therefore not in compliance with "OHGenWeb county
coordinators must display the current year and copyright info on their main
page."
from http://www.ohgenweb.org/guidelines.php
I'm ok with that and I'm sure that Dale will win the election without my
vote. I agree that my home page currently DOES NOT display "copyright info."
and I am not trying to dispute the election committee ruling.
Having said that, I'm not sure just what the above requirement is supposed
to mean. Are we saying that the home page MUST be copyrighted?
I chose NOT to put a copyright statement on the front page, but have
copyright statements on all of the thousands of other pages (excluding jpgs)
that make up the site.
Is there some kind of "copyright info" that could be put on the front page
without actually claiming a copyright for it?
Is it the intention of the OHGenWeb to not allow a cc to waive copyrights
and create a page in the public domain?
I don't meant this to be antagonistic. If you prefer, a reply off list would
be fine.
Thanks

PS: As an FYI, I've posted the USGenWeb Bylaw regarding copyright below.
I'm no lawyer, but I don't think this "REQUIRES" a page to be copyrighted.
Am I wrong?
X. COPYRIGHT
A. In The USGenWeb Project, copyright of websites resides solely with the
creator of the web page(s). Their inclusion as part of The USGenWeb Project
does not give any irrevocable right, implied or otherwise, to The USGenWeb
Project to permanently use the material.
B. In The USGenWeb Project, copyright to queries and any other data
submitted to any state or local websites resides with the submitter. The
submission of queries and other data to The USGenWeb Project implies that
The USGenWeb Project may continue to post the material until/if such time
the submitter requests removal.
C. In The USGenWeb Project, copyright to data contributed to any special
projects resides with the contributor, who agrees that The USGenWeb Project,
as a not-for-profit group, has permanent use of the data. The permanent use
agreement is conditional upon the non-profit nature of The USGenWeb Project
and will become null and void if The USGenWeb Project should ever cease to
be non-profit.
D. All members of The USGenWeb Project shall be responsible for adhering to
The USGenWeb Project's Official Copyright Policy which may be found, along
with further information about copyright, at The USGenWeb Project national
website, http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.html.

I agree with your sentiments about requiring the copyright statement.
Your page is copyrighted by you by default anyway. Also, OHGenWeb is
not claiming the copyright, they are requiring you to claim your
copyright. Save yourself an ulcer and don't fight it. You won't win.
See one of my county home pages for how I handled it.

I maintain the following USGenWeb county sites:

Jackson County Ohio at

Vinton County Ohio at

I am also the listowner of the Jackson County mailing list:
ohjackso(a)rootsweb.ancestry.com
and the Vinton County mailing list: ohvinton(a)rootsweb.ancestry.com
however, someone else has the Gallia County mailing list.
Not only do I have to adhere to the USGenWeb guidelines, but the OHGenWeb
guidelines as well. Please see the following:
OHGenWeb county coordinators must belong to the state official mailing list,
ohgen(a)rootsweb.com for internal correspondence
OHGenWeb county coordinators must display on their main page the official
OHGenWeb logo and USGenWeb logo and link them back to their appropriate
sites.
*OHGenWeb county coordinators must display the current year and copyright
info on their main page*.
OHGenWeb county coordinators must make sure a submission to their county
project is not a copyright infringement. Items written before 1880 are
considered to be public domain.

The copyright requirement is an OHGenWeb rule. Our membership put it into
