Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
And my appreciation to Shannon Moore for her time and effort as Noble County coordinator.
I'll take this opportunity to note my roots in Noble County: my Hupp, Waller, and Cranston lines all converged there circa 1835 (though that was before it became a county in 1851). The Hupps may have been there as early as 1790, according to some sources.

I NEVER turn down volunteers.
Thanks, Scott.

Shannon has decided to give up her OHGenWeb counties so that she can devote

I thank her for her service to OHGenWeb and wish her well in her endeavors.

I got one today for "fast money." I don't monitor the gateway as I
seldom have any problems with it but one spammer posted on my boards.
The weird thing is it did not come to my List mode subscription but did
through the Digest. It was removed automatically from the boards but not
by me. It also made it to the list archives and I have requested it be
removed from the archives via the help desk. The archive removal tool
won't work when a message is sent from the gateway. They should actually
create a new tool just for that so we don't have to bug them.
I also saw the same message come through the Licking County mailing list
so this guy has found a way to post this crap on the boards.

I manage several mailing lists and review unregistered submissions. It is a
nuisance to review an average of 50 per month (for some reason one lists
receives most), but I also am registered on 5 mailing lists, and would not
enjoy receiving 250 emails monthly unrelated to the list.
So, to all list administrators, please help keep our mail boxes free of
unrelated messages.

The out & out spam sent to the mail list (NOT coming through Message
Boards) is obviously a lot more than what comes through the Message
Boards or I would have known earlier that I didn't have Geauga Co's
Message Board on the ban list. It's a lot harder to send spam through
the Message Boards, this person would have had to physically send the
message to each one, and so far Geauga County is the only one I've
seen this one come through.

Linda, I never said I let them go through, I said I have them sent to me so that I can
approve or report as spam. That is the county ones I manage that is.

No problem, Joan. It's good advice for members of any mailing list. And
reminders every now and then are good. (Especially for those of us who
can't remember 15 minutes ago.)
One got through on one of the county lists I'm on. And I have to delete
about 3 each day before they get to the Ohio list.

The mailing lists recently received some unwanted junk mail. This
post came through the gateway from the message board and has already
been removed from the message board and will also be removed from the
mailing list archives.
COMPLAINTS to the mailing list is the perfectly WRONG thing to do.
For one thing if you hit reply you SEND THE JUNK MAIL back to the
mailing list which is the ABSOLUTELY WRONG THING TO DO. This doubles
the work load of having to remove the spam from the archives again
and you have junked up everyone's mailbox with spam -- again. So
please DO NOT SEND COMPLAINTS TO THE LIST.
If you must complain then do so privately to the list admin - but
usually by the time you get around to making your complaint the issue
has already been dealt with, so if you get something unwanted just
DELETE IT AND FORGET IT.
Sincerely,
Joan Asche
