Wow, thanks Scott. Last weekend I attended a funeral and was at Salem
cemetery in Salem hollow near Sycamore where my grandfather was born and
where I lived in Coalgate. This topographical map you shared shows
little black squares of where the houses were in the 1960's, and where
the coal mines were, where there coal mine tipples were, the mountain
ranges and wayne national forest I grew up in, shows most of the names
of the rivers and hollow's. I am so thrilled with this, thank you!

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Even though the pages I manage have
all surrounding counties listed, you have given me more reasons for their
inclusion. My thinking had been limited to the formation of counties and
where pioneeers travelled.
Don
So were your points Nancy!!

Holly, thanks for the info.

I'm trying to help Peggy Gilmore with Fayette, which she took over from me,
and have found two neighboring sites are still linked to the former Fayette
site, which is now a personal page. I also found that the other counties do
not link to Fayette. So, my question has two purposes.
Peggy and I have separately asked the CC's to update the link, but have not
seen any action.
I'm hoping that by asking the question, there might be some positive action.

Or -- sometimes Townships moved were from one county to another.

The "About Cuyahoga" page referenced in my first reply includes information
[dates/links] on 'parent', 'child' as well as neighbors.

I've never seen it as a requirement. I've just done it since the mid 1990s
before my Butler County OH page was part of OHGenWeb.
Why?
* People sometimes moved around in the area beyond one county
* Relatives were sometimes buried in neighboring counties from where they
lived
* Neighboring county web sites may have databases and other on-line research
that would interest my county's researchers, and vice versa.

None that I have ever been aware of and that goes back to the beginnings in
1996. The closest the national level guidelines for CC's comes is to state
"Every page should provide some basic research help for their county."
Having said that, I think links to neighboring counties are an important
item to include on our pages. I usually have icnluded them in the section i
have about the county's formation. Our Cuyahoga County's links to
neighboring counties is at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohcuyaho/aboutcuyahoga.html
Which reminds me, that page is probably overdue for link checking <sigh>.
I'm not sure which direction you are coming from with your question Don, is
someone refusing to add one of your counties as a neighboring link or is
someone badgering you to add such links?
