Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Now that we seem to be working again, perhaps another roll call is in order. That way we have an idea who is and who isn't here. Since some of us may have been unsubbed, so this should be a roll call just to see who is still on the list.

Hey Everyone,
I was little shocked when i got my unsubscribe notice from the list. In
a little
upset mode, i emailed her asked what going on. She replied back. She is
getting several bounce messages from the list. In the list tools, she is
trying
to clear the emails. By doing this, she is unsubscribing all from the
list, then
wants all of us to re-subscribe back under either LIST MODE or DIGEST
mode
of our choice. She wants redo the list with a clean slate of ALL Vaild
Email
Addresses on the CC's. So lets not get upset (Like I Did) and jump the
gun
before we know what going on. If you get a unsubscribe message. Just
resubscribe
to the list. This is the only way she can WEED out the bad email
addresses.
Hope we all will get back on track here, so we can grow much stronger as
a
group on OHGENWEB.
Thanks
Mike

I never thought of that, I sure hope they don't mind as I really need
everyone to resubscribe with their correct email addresses they want on

I decided that it is too confusing to try to straighten out the many
email addresses on OHGen lists of what is a correct email address and
which one is outdated for the list and digest mode.
Beginning with the digest mode:
I unsubscribed the 18 people who were there on the digest list mode.
If you need to be subscribed in digest mode to read your messages at a
later date, please resubscribe by putting subscribe in the subject box
of your email addressed to OHGen-D-request(a)rootsweb.com .
The last nine days I was away from my home computer and my email box is
so filled that I am unable to figure out which email addressess to me
were for which list and which were for which way of posting.
I am thinking the OHGen list needs a clear slate with everyone
resubscribing so I can make some kind of sense of which emails CC's want
on the OHGen list in either list mode or digest mode.
Before I left for my trip I thought I had done what CC's had asked of me
for correcting their email addresses, but now that I am back I see some
of what I did created havoc.
If agreeable, I would like to unsubscribe all from the OHGen-L mailing
list and restart it with everyone resubscribing with the correct email
address of their choice.
I am still in a learning process with the OHGen-L mailing lists.

I am very proud of how the OHGenWeb CC's stepped up to the plate and
made the updates and changes for the OHGenWeb deadline of June 18th. In
checking there are many counties which I saw qualified for the trophy
award but my time to check all the thousands of links for all 88
counties has been limited.
You may notice that your name on the ~ohgenweb/CClist.htm webpage is
highlighted in Gold, this means I was able to go through the majority of
your links and they were working and current and all the other
requirements appeared to be met and you will be receiving a trophy.
If your name is not in gold does not mean that you are not receiving a
trophy, just that I haven't made it through your site and checked all
your links yet, or that maybe your site is still being worked on. Some
of our counties have thousands of links and some of the counties have a
few links and pages and to check the smaller sites are quicker for me to
check which is why some have already been shown in gold as a marker for
me to know which I have checked and which need checked.
If you feel your county is ready for review from your own checking of
your site, send me an email and I will get back with you soon as I can.
I am still working on personalizing the trophies to be presented to the
counties which I have finished checking thus far.
Thank you,
Sandy

The maps are a great idea!! I use them on my sites as well and feel free to
grab my images.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohallen/allmain.html
OR I will be happy to send an image to anyone who wants one. And if you
are not able to do the editing to highlight your county - I'll do for you.
Let me know.
When you enter any of the State of Indiana County pages FROM the State page,
you are presented first with a map of Indiana and then are redirected to the
County site. It's a neat idea, something that could be considered for Ohio.
Take a look.
http://www.ingenweb.net/ingen_county.htm
Click on any of the County links and you'll see the State map with County
identified then be redirected to the County page.

First as you can see, I think there should be ONE list for OHGenWeb, and I
shall continue to ask my questions to you all here as that is the only place
I know to ask them and where else am I going to get such GREAT help.
Thanks everyone for your help about addresses. I've gotten several messages
privately and appreciate all the insight. I've been a computer user for
years (remember Atari 400's, lol, our first home computer) and an internet
user for a long time (remember nongraphic and using pine?) but I guess I
hadn't run across the using %7E for a ~ before. I was confused. I've had
mixed reviews as to which is the proper way or preferred way (mostly ~). I
shall use the ~ as that is what rootsweb uses in their references and how I
was given the acct. Anyway, thanks SO much everyone for all your help.
Again, thanks everyone! I really do appreciate it.

I urge everyone here to speak up in favor of the continuance of general use
of this list for the discussion of all aspects of project business. Simply
reply to this message and say "yes" or "no".
Dictatorial control may be required in an elementary school classroom, but
we are not children, we are adults, and it is not in our best interest to sit
and be quiet and allow it to continue unopposed.
It looks like at least one other person has been moderated on this list. The
reason appears to be simply continuing to discuss administrative issues that
were not to Sandy's liking, which is not a reason to be moderated; the
purpose of the list clearly allows these topics. Once again the proper procedure
did not take place before the moderation occurred.
The sooner we can get the point across on this issue, the sooner this list
can go back to being the quiet place it once was, so please speak up now.
Thanks,
Scott

Ok, I'm confused. I thought the email address for the counties that were on
rootsweb.com was always of the form:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~oh123456
where 123456 are the first six letters of the county
and that the ohio page would be :
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgenweb/
Now that's what I have for the link on my pages but Sandy's references all
have
http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eohgenweb/ in them.
and counties are listed as http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eoh123456
It seems to get there but are these redirects?
I've always told people that I am helping research the way to easily find a
county, assuming it is housed on rootsweb was to type in a slash, then the ~
followed by the two letter state abbrev and the first 6 letters of the
county. Is this incorrect?
I was trying to find my neighbor's addresses.

Hi list,
Just a quick note to respond. I only was trying to say we all need to
pull together even if we need mediation and get on with the business of
OHGenWeb.
(My husband says sometimes it is hard to communicate what you want to

I have sent a message to the list with Updates that I have done for Huron

and returning Asst CC. Anyone else have anything to share? I hope I
sent it to the correct list?
