Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
So glad to hear it! Will be looking for the email that
tells to change the address.

Regarding color, if you want to duplicate OSU colors, then the scarlet is rgb(153, 0, 0) <http://www.osu.edu/identity/logo.php>, rather then the rgb(204, 0, 0) selected for OHGenWeb (there is an error on their page where they translate the hex into decimal, they say rgb(204, 0, 0) when they really mean rgb(153, 0, 0)).
I don't see any particular reason to duplicate OSU's colors (even though Woody Hayes is a cousin...). But since the state flower is the scarlet carnation <http://www.50states.com/flower/ohio.htm> and the state bird is the cardinal <http://www.birding.com/9521nocard.asp>, the hue seems appropriate. In my random sampling rgb(204,0,0) is a lot closer to these two.
Seriously, though, Sandy, it's completely up to you what color scheme you use.

Sara,
Pico has changed their policies.. Now they only allow 250 pages before you
have to start paying. Old accounts will still do the 1500, but new ones are
limited to 250. I was shocked when I tried to set up for a site, and got
"quota reached" before it was half done. <sigh>

Sandy,
Would it be possible to add a link to the Ohio Biographies Project? The
project was also started by Jeff Murphy, but has remained separate from the
USGenWeb even though many counties are intertwined.

I'd also like to see that added, it was one of his most favorite projects.

Sandy and everyone,
While I know that putting together a new state page is a little work and
your trying to simplify things a bit by borrowing from the Texas State
page, I really think Ohio deserves a design that is unique to this
state. I have visited all state's pages and some are very unimaginative
and others are very good at presenting a unique presence based on things
that state is known for. California, Vermont and Iowa are two examples.
Some are very high tech looking like New Jersey. I'm not saying we
should base ours on any other state only that ours should have it's own
look. Not one state looks like another one right now and if you use the
current design we will be the first. I think Ohio deserves better.
I've actually always like the design of the PAGenWeb project and liked
it's ease of use. Some of their counties also used the same design. I
think a lot of it had to do with Carol Hepburn being coordinator for
many of them. Indiana also has some good ideas although the overall look
is a bit on the dull side. They present a pre-entry page for every
county that includes a state county map with that county highlighted.
The "Enter" link then takes you to the actual county site. I for one
like to see where a county is located in relation to the rest of the
state and I always liked this feature on Indiana's site, one of the only
things I actually liked about it.
Before we commit to a new design, why don't we discuss what we would
like instead of just grabbing a design from another state and trying to
make it work for us. If we can come up with an over all look based on
something unique to Ohio, I think we will all be a lot happier.
The current page up for review works well as far as ease of use but this
can remain in another design layout, one that is unique to Ohio.
Whatever we have to include from out history or geography, Buckeyes,
Cardinals, Canal Boats, whatever, lets just be different from everyone else!

Sandy,
There are a couple of typos on the new page (and also on the Texas page
if you want to pass that on to Bettie Wood). They are "Guidlines" which
should be "Guidelines" and "Transcriptons" which should be
"Transcriptions"
Also, I'm not too keen on the one census project's files being given top
billing while the other is just termed "more census transcriptions."
You could put them on a more equal footing if you listed them
consecutively with something like:
Ohio Census Transcriptions (rootsweb.com)
Ohio Census Transcriptions (us-census.org)
The page layout is fine with me, and I'll leave the discussion of colors
to other CCs.
Many thanks.

Before settling on a site design I checked out every states design to
see what seemed to be the most dynamic and appealing and user friendly
as there are new web standards in 2005 then when we started back in
1996. Texas seemed to be leading this idea on their site.
New terms for website design and efficiency
user-centric
When a design process is based around the user it is called a
'user-centric' design process. This is as opposed to a standard
'design-centric' approach, where the design is produced away from the
user and then presented to them.
User-centric design approaches generally provide much better results as
they constantly draw information from the user on what they need and
what they like, and then change the design accordingly. User-centred
design typically uses a series of prototypes and some form of testing to
place the user within the design process.

"User Centric Web Design

The most effective method of achieving this is to employ information

it operates, what experience it provides.
User Centric design ensures that not only is a logo placed on a page or
that corporate colours or design are carried consistently throughout, it
also considers what kind of experience a user has whilst using a website
and if that user comes away with a positive or negative feeling.
Why user centric web design?
No matter what type of organisation you are, every organisation can
benefit from a well-planned website. And whilst, beautiful, impressive
and compelling design is important for a variety of reasons, design must
be weighed against user needs.
A Company's brand represents its core value, how it exists, how it

website is created with the user as the focal point, ensuring they find
the information or product/service quickly and efficiently.

Sandy, you're using a RGB Hex color code of >>>rgb(255, 0, 0)<<<
as the background color of the title bars (see snip from the page
code below)
=======================================
<td>
<div style="background-color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"
align="center"><font color="White" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"
size="-1"><b>About the OHGenWeb Project</b></font></div>
</td>
=======================================
I think if you use an R,G,B color code of
>>>rgb(205,0,0)<<< (Hex code is: CD0000)
or
>>>rgb(205,38,38)<<< (Hex code is: CD2626)
you'll be closer to the scarlet color for OSU.
Here's a link to a color code page showing color and resulting code:
http://eies.njit.edu/~kevin/rgb.txt.html
Hope this is of some help. When you look at the color used
compared with other alternatives, it does look more orange
than scarlet -- the color is so, so subjective. We all see shades
of colors differently.
Yes, it does actually because I liked the user centric layout and many
of the states are using it. Check out Arizona also. Of course our
links are different, haven't got that all finished yet, waiting on
feedback from you all.

Design looks good to me Sandra.
You may be focused on this -- the images for the Ohio and USGenWeb (top left
and right corners) are poor. Not sharp, somewhat fuzzy and the US image has
some sort of a vertical line on the left and is out of proportion to the
Ohio image.
Everything else looks crisp and professional.
(No Scarlet and Grey? Blue and Orange are Uof I) (It hardly matters - just
an observation.)
