Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Don,
I had not thought of that. I think the link to the pages is the way
to go. But it could be a couple of weeks before I get the stuff all sorted
out. Thanks for the great idea!

Maggie,
It seems to me that linking to the web page would serve two purposes: (1) save
you the work of copying and pasting the histories, and (2) histories may be
updated as information is received and we might forget to have you update your
page.
Having said this, there is no objection to your adding the history to your
page.

Hello Everyone!
I put all the updates on the page that I have and changed the
capitol picture to a prettier picture with some flowers in front of it.
The page is at
http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/Courthouses/county_courthouses.html.
Also some of the pictures that I got from other pages I did make some size
and focus changes so you all make sure they are ok.
I have some questions...Do you think I should put the histories on
the page with them or link them to the genweb pages? I thought I could
link to each respective OHGenWeb page just above the return to the index
page. What do you all think? Is there some improvement that anyone can
think of?

also the Defunct Place Editor.
2. Judy Kelble - CC for Huron County
3. Maggie Stewart-Zimmerman - CC for Knox, Erie, Franklin,
Medina, and Miami counties, and editor of the clickable map and the
courthouse project
4. ??? To be determined, could be you <g> .... you have until Monday
night to decide.

I had a comment in response to my message about the purpose of the list
that indicated that I should include instructions for unsubscribing if I
did not want those involved in the OHGenWeb project on the list. Since I
did not intend to say that those not involved with the project should not
be on the list, I thought a clarification was in order.
What I meant to say was that the purpose of the list was for OHGenWeb
business. Anyone is welcome to be subscribed to the list if you would
like to know what's going on in the project. If you would like to
contribute your feedback about the project, that is welcome as well. My
goal is to have the list used for project business and not for non-project
business (such as queries about Ohio genealogy, there are other lists for
that purpose, such as the Ohio-Valley list).
I'll say that again, if you want to subscribe to this list because you
are interested in the project - than you are welcome whether you are
actively involved in the project or not.

We had 45 people respond, including 42 cc's, 2 assistant/co-ccs and
1 county volunteer. That's 42 out of 62 cc's, that's quite a turnout
of the cc's.
Item 3 and 4 were the most conclusive votes,
Item 3 - Must be subscribed to ohgen-l to vote?
42 - Yes
3 - No
Item 4 - Where to send votes
1 - A to this lsit
2 - B to one individual
42 - C to two individuals
Unfortunately Item 1 and 2 weren't so conclusive, for item 1 the
results were:
Item 1 - Number of days
5 - A at least 3 days
17 - B at least 7 days
17 - C at least 10 days
6 - D at least 14 days
I'm declaring C the winner, since B and C tied and presumably if the
A and D votes were asked to revote for just B or C, the A votes would
vote for B and the D votes would vote for C, giving
22 - B at least 7 days
23 - C at least 10 days
Item 2 is even harder than #1. The votes were split exactly evenly
across all 3 options.
Item 2 - Who gets to vote
15 - A 1 per person, all OHGenWeb participants (incl. county vols)
15 - B 1 per person, all OHGenWeb participants except county vols
15 - C 1 per county or position
In retrospect, I should have posed the questions as follows (I've
listed the counts that could be extrapolated from the actual vote):
Item 2a - Should the vote be based on county or person, ie one vote
per person or one vote per county?
30 - 1 vote per person
15 - 1 vote per county
Item 2b - If the vote is per person, should county volunteers be
elgible to vote?
15 - include county volunteers
15 - do not include county volunteers
15 - unknown
Which indicates that a per person vote was favored, but whether
volunteers should be included is still not conclusive. I've been
agonizing over what to do.
I've decided to send the people who voted for option C a message
asking them to vote for whether county volunteers should be included
or not, rather than initiate another round of voting. I've asked the
C-voters to respond by Monday night when the nominations are due
so that we can get started on the SC vote.

a couple of months has created some confusion about its purpose. A
few weeks ago I changed the list options so that the following text

Maggie,
For some reason I cannot get the e-mail on your courthouse page to work on
my e-mail. So I will use this method to contact you.
First you have a great idea going there. Keep up the excellent work.
If you so desire, you may download the photo of the Willliams Co., OH
courthouse that I have on my page.....and add it to your site. I own the
original copy of the postcard this was taken from, so you may use it on your
site.

If you need any data on the Williams Co. Courthouse, let me know what you
want. I co-authored a book on the topic a few years back. Getting the info
to you will be no problem.
UR doing a great job!!!

Hi all!
This is exciting news, from our very own Stacy Whitney!
QueryExpress is a very nice way to have your queries sent to you, no
matter how you manage your queries. Please check it out and see what
you think.

Subject: New USGenWeb/WorldGenWeb query system in production
The new USGenWeb/WorldGenWeb query system is ready for your use!
Query Express, the new USGenWeb/WorldGenWeb query system, has been in
beta testing since late March. It is ready for general use. The
system allows you to have your incoming queries sent to your e-mail
address, a mailing list, a temporary web page, or any combination of
the three. It supports CCHELPER format (among many others.) It also
can help index your queries by automatically tagging them for use with
Surname Helper (an indexing program).
If any of this sounds interesting to you, check out the Query Express
site at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/qexpress/
Query Express is not a bulletin board system - it requires some manual
intervention by the site coordinator. If you are after a bulletin
board approach, I recommend the Kentucky Query System. Hopefully, the
Kentucky Query System and Query Express will work together at some point
in the future. More information about the Kentucky Query System can be
found at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~usgwqury/
Query Express was hammered out by a committee consisting of (in no particular
order): Megan Zurawicz, Dr. Brian Leverich, Michael Hebert, Mike Gwinn,
Patty Lindsay, Stacy Whitney, Dale Schneider, Barry Zurawicz. The Query
Express program (and all resulting bugs) was written by Stacy Whitney.
Therefore, please direct any questions about the Query Express site or
the program to me, Stacy Whitney, at stacy(a)sands-edge.com.
Thanks,
-Stacy

I would urge any of you that do not have your queries indexed by
surname to check out using QueryExpress (see previous message) or the
Kentucky Query System, a query bulletin board system, and of course
there is always CCHelper. If CCHelper looks like more than you want
to bite off, then either of the above options may be more to your
liking. In any of the three cases, you can then particpate in
Surname Helper and have the queries indexed at the state or national
level as well. The point is that there are lots of options for you
now.
Surname Helper (previously called CCHelper Central) is the surname
searchable database that indexes queries, surname registrations,
obits, census index, and many other types of entries on county pages,
surname pages, and other kinds of pages. It now provides a surname
search page for the county and also a surname index page for the
county. You can see how it works at:
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/surhelp/srchall.html
Ohio currently has queries for 45 of our 88 counties in Surname
Helper. That's the highest percentage for any state, except for
Rhode Island where all 5 counties were in very early. Think how
exciting it would be to have all, or nearly all, of the Ohio queries
surname searchable from one place!
If you have already indexed your queries by surname by hand, there are
some options for participating in Surname Helper as well.
I think all of the Ohio CC's using CCHelper are already in Surname
Helper, but if not, please consider participating.
The Kentucky Query System, also know as the USGWQURY system, will be
participating in Surname Helper very shortly, with no additional
work by the CC.
I know all of the options are confusing. I'd like to help you
determine which is best for you, so drop me a note and we can talk
about it. I will personally work with any Ohio CC to determine the
best way to get there queries indexed for your existing situation and
preferences for handling your queries. Send me a note, tell me what
you're doing and what you're interested in doing and I'll step you
through whatever process we decide on (in the case of the KY System,
I'll have to just point you in the right direction).
