A fire in a mobile home in Castile claimed the lives of former North Java
and Arcade resident Bernard PLEACE and his four daughters, age 7, 6, 4, and
Terry KLINE of Friendship was named manager of the soon-to-open Yorkshire
branch of First Trust Union Bank.
Mrs. Philip VICKMAN was installed as president of the firemen's auxiliary in
Mrs. Bruce DRAPER was elected president of the American Legion auxiliary in
New teachers hired at Pioneer included Diane ALLEN of Waterville and Mark
RELYEA of Delevan.
Dorothy EDSALL retired after 30 years as a kindergarten teacher at Arcade.
Donna HELMS and Mary Ellen MORRISON opened the Budget Boutique in Delevan.
Deaths: Ray CANFIELD, 78, of Delevan; Carroll HAWKS, 58, of Arcade.
50 Years Ago, June 16, 1955
Federal Judge John KNIGHT of Arcade died at age 84.He began his political
career in 1894 as Arcade town clerk, and worked his way up to the state
Assembly and state Senate. He was appointed to the federal bench by
President Hoover in 1931.
Kenneth KITTLESON and Robert SCHIENER were co-chairmen of the
Chaffee-Sardinia Firemen's Carnival.
The Holland Kiwanis Club decided to organize a tulip festival for the
Joyce HOBDAY was valedictorian and Wesley MARSH was salutatorian of the
Bliss branch of Letchworth Central School.
Deaths: Hattie RICHARDSON DAVIS, 96, longtime church organist in Arcade;
Harold BAYNE of Chaffee; Mertie JONES FLOGAUS, 74, of Arcade; Raymond
WILLEY, 81, Bliss.
