Sad Case of Drowning.
A sad case of drowning occurred at Wethersfield, Conn., Friday evening
about 7 o'clock, near Pratt's Ferry.
The schooner A.G. Hazard, Capt. George G. Latimer, had got aground, and
while attempting in the small boat to cast anchor, the chain caught Capt.
Latimer by the leg, and in spite of the utmost exertions of the crew, he was
drawn overboard and drowned. He begged his men to hold on to him, but with a
sinking boat, and a heavy anchor dragging him down, they were powerless. His
body was recovered bout 11 o'clock.
Capt. Latimer was a resident of Wethersfield, was 28 years of age, and
leaves a brokenhearted wife and widowed mother, together with many others,
relatives and friends, to mourn his loss.
