Thanks to both of you for your kind helpfulness.
I have indeed watched the SSA Death Index but nothing even comes close to him.
The names there and yours below may be helpful at a later hour??
His SS records say that no one has ever drawn on his SS or reported his death!
He appears to have "gone off the deep end" after the separation & later div from his wf & 2 dau in MA, received a dishonorable discharge from the Navy for drinking, lived alone in boarding houses, had many jobs with employers based in NY and other states, never found in city directories, phone books, no known subsequent wives...
His last known residence was on the 1930 cen in a boarding house in Silver Springs, Gainesville Twp, Wyoming Co, NY and his last employers were listed by SSA bet 1940-1945 with Hq in Baslto, MD; Warsaw, NY; The Woodlands, TX; & Perry, NY. Last reported SS earnings were in 1944 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 7-9 Harvester Ave, Batavia, Genesee Co, NY and in Jul 1945 at Tip Top Restaurant, 38 Main St, Genesee Co, NY.
I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
And, again, many thanks.

One of my groups members did this look up today and here are the results. You can sent to
Albany NY for a copy of the certificate or contact the Town Clerk in Alden or Alben. See which
one is closest to Batavia. Hope this is of some help to you. I looked up Alden, there is no Alben,
in my copy of "Historical and Statistical Gazetteer of New York State" by J. H. French, 1860;
and Alden is in Erie Co., near Clarence. Maybe this will give you a new place to check.

Subj: Re: Anyone going to Rundell??
I checked the Vital Records Index this morning.
The soundex code for COAKLEY is C 240.
The 1957 fiche is VERY light and also out of focus. To the best of my eyesight, the only Coakley listed was a James who was 85 or 83. He appears to have died on 2/26 of that year. The State Death Certificate number looked like it was 9644. The place of death looked like it was Alden or Alben.
The 1958 fiche was wonderful to look at. The only Coakley's listed were:
Alice M. Died in Valley Stream age 47 8/29 state cert. # 55458
Elizabeth D. Cortland age 93 4/29 24672
Evington L. Herkimer age 59 12/6 83824
The 1959 fiche has been released. These were the Coakley names located on it.
Oscar H. Buffalo age 68 25529
Patrick H. Orangebur... age 80 73334
Wallace Buffalo age 53 16748
Hope this helps. Would be interested in how you read the 1957 fiche.
Has Mr. McCawley looked at the 17 men listed in the SSDI site http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi

Thanks, if you have time to do this, I was trying to help a man in CA find his grandfather. I do this
every once in a while to help someone out of the area. I guess the VR are his last resort. I see
that the Library in Elmira has the VR also, the group is going there on Oct. 13, so if you don't
get to this I can check it when I go to Elmira. I didn't realize they had the records there til today
when I was checking out the Library.
I am still searching for the death of my gf:
Frank William COAKLEY
b 27 Aug 1887 MA and last seen 1944 in Batavia area NY.
I need a search of the 1957-8 death records.
