Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thank you to all of you who responded. Apparently some of you don't realize
that the problem lies with AOL, NOT RootsWeb. Since I am paying for a
service, I expect to receive it or be reimbursed for the lack of it. I will be
calling AOL. I have thought about change but I have no desire to go through all
that would involve.
Thanks again to you all

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Max E. TORREY of Gainesville, New York
which was taken at the R. L. Merrell Studio in Geneseo, NY. The photograph
appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Max appearing to be in
his 20's at the time. In addition to his name, someone has also written
"Pres. of Class of '0l" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited
research I believe that this may well be a photograph of Max E. TORREY b. 23
May 1876 in NY to parents Rollin H. TORREY and Julia L. REEVES. Max died 10
During the 1880 census the family was living in Java, NY with census records
providing the following information:
Rollin H. TORRY, age 31, born in NY, a Farmer, parents born in NY
Julia TORRY, wife, age 28, born in NY, Keeping House, parents born in NY
Bessie TORRY, dau, age 8, born in NY
Arthur TORRY, son, age 6, born in NY
Max E. TORRY, son, age 4, born in NY
Julian TORRY, son, age 2, born in NY
In 1900 the family is living in Gainesville, NY with census records
providing the following information:
R. H. TORREY, age 51, born July 1848, married 29 years, born in NY, parents
born in NY, a Farmer
Julia TORREY, wife, age 47, born Jan 1853, married 9 years, No children,
born in NY, parents born in NY
Carrey L. TORREY, dau, age 16, born Sept 1883, born in NY, At School
Ella R. TORREY, dau, age 13, born June 1887, born in NY, At School
Johnie E. TORREY, son, age 10, born July 1889, born in NY, At School
Harold Wm TORREY, son, age 8, born Apr 1892, born in NY, At School
Carrol L. TORREY, son, age 6, born May 1894, born in NY, At School
Don't know why Julia is listed as only married 9 years when she has clearly
been with her husband for more than 20 years based on census information.
Also listing her without children, though she clearly has children, could
all be an error since she appears to have had 9 children, it could just be
that the census taker goofed and entered the incorrect info.
During the 1910 census Julia is a widow living in Gainesville, NY with some
of her children, records providing the following information:
Julia L. TORREY, age 58, widow, 10 children, 9 living, born in NY, parents
born in NY
Ella TORREY, dau, age 22, born in NY, parents born in NY
John TORREY, son, age 20, born in NY, parents born in NY, a Farm Laborer
Harold TORREY, son, age 17, born in NY, parents born in NY, a Farm Laborer
Carol TORREY, son, age 15, born in NY, parents born in NY, a Farm Laborer
I am hoping to locate someone from this TORREY Family so that this wonderful
old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member
of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thank you for that information. I found that I have a number of these
articles thanks to the Historian's office. Most I submitted to a newspaper
project, but have lost that website address. I noticed that when clicking on "more
info," at the bottom of the extended information page one could add a note.
Should one add the original article at this place? Would it be helpful or
be too much information?
Still looking into the REDDISH, FARGO, RANNEY families of Wyoming and Genesee
The LINDSAY's of America book indicates these four LINDSEY's are brothers.
Does anyone have any further proof of this?

I am looking for information concerning a BENJAMIN SHOEMAKER (born abt 1819)
and family which included CATHARINE, wife, GEORGE, LUCINA (LUCENA) and
MARTHA J. I found them in Castile, Wyoming Co, NY in 1850 census. In that
census there is also a POLLY mentioned. Does anyone have any other information on
this family? I am looking for a Shoemaker family whose daughter Lucena
married Carlos P. Keith and spent most of their married life in Allen County,
Kansas. According to a book titled " A History of Allen and Woodson Counties,
Kansas", Lucena was the daughter of Benjamin Shoemaker of Perry, New York.
It doesn't list a mother's name. Lucena and Carlos were married in Ogle
County, Illinois in 1860.
Thanks to anyone who might have some information on this family.
