I just realized I replied to you directly
and not the list.....sorry!
As far as I remember, it was free when
I went, but there may have been some
restricted times--maybe for lessons. I'm
not sure. That's a long time ago!
Hope these posts have a happy ending
and we learn that they honored
Mr. Beardslee's wishes. Do you know
why he made such a bequest?

I swam in the Beardslee Pool every summer in the years around 1946-1954. In
order to do so, one had to buy a "swimming card" for about $10.00 at the
County Clerk's Office in Warsaw, NY.

Thought you might be interested in the swimming pool that was to be
built and use of it FREE. I would like to know if these conditions
described below are as they were set out to be.
>From the will of Nathan S. BEARDSLEE:
Twenty-second: Upon the death, or remarriage of my said wife, Carolin B.
BEARDSLEE, out of said trust fund, created in the Fifteenth paragraph
hereof, to wit= the sum of Twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000), to
the following named trustees, viz: The President of the Wyoming County
National Bank of Warsaw, New York, the president of the Village of
Warsaw, N. Y., and James E NORTON, of Warsaw, N. Y., are to be such
trustees only while the hold such respective position or offices and are
to be respectively succeeded as such trustees by their successors in
such offices or positions; the said trustees to use and expend not to
exceed Fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) in erecting, installing and
properly and adequately equipping a public bath house and swimming pool,
within the said village of Warsaw, upon a site to be furnished by said
village, without expense to this fund or legacy, the same to belong to
said village of Warsaw.
The said village of Warsaw to furnish free, at all time when said bath
house and swimming pool are in use, an adequate supply of water for said
bath house and its heating plant and equipment.
Said bath house and swimming pool to be open to and for the use of all
of the residents of the said village of Warsaw daily from May 1st to
November 1st of each year, and as much more of each year as the said
trustees may decide to keep it open; the hours of the day when it shall
be kept open to be determined by the trustees, with a view of giving the
largest and freest reasonable use of the same to those whose pleasure
and profit it is intended to serve; except that during the period when
it is open for use, that on Sundays it be open from six a.m. to ten a.m.
and from two p.m. to six p.m..
The said bath house and swimming pool to be conducted, operated and
controlled by and under said trustees or their successors and used and
enjoyed under such reasonable legal rules and regulations as may be from
time to time, promulgated by said trustees or their successors.
The said trustees and their successors shall hold Ten thousand dollars
($10,000) of said trust fund, and in addition thereto such part of said
above mentioned Fifteen thousand dollars, ($15,000), as may not be
expended to erect, install and equip such bath house, swimming pool, and
invest and reinvest the same on the class and character of securities
prescribed for the investment of the funds of the trusts in this
instrument provided for, and expend the net income there from to help
defray the cost of maintaining the bath hose and swimming pool and
keeping the same open and the proper conditions for use.
If said net income will not or does not adequately and properly maintain
and pay the cost of conducting and operating the said bathhouse and
swimming pool, then said village of Warsaw is to pay the balance of the
cost of properly maintaining and operating the same.
I have received from SAMBUCO wills on two BEARDSLEYs. One is from
Chenango County, the other from Cattargus County, New York.
#1 will is for Sarah W. BEARDSLEY. This is a *male*. No clue as to why
they named him Sarah. Mentioned:
Wife: Louise M. BEARDSLEY
#2 will is very long - 11 pages! This is for Nathan S. BEARDSLEE from
Wyoming County, New York.
At the present I see no connection to either will. If anyone has a
connection to these people I would be glad to copy them and send it to
you. I will be transcrbing these to be posted to:
Wyoming Co NY
Chenango Co NY
The Wyoming County one is *very* interesting. Apparantly Nathan had
quite extensive holdings. He left money for New Berlin to start a museum
and library. He also left money for a swimming pool in Warsaw. Does
anyone know if the pool or museum and library exist today?

I am researching the following ancestor
b. 1790 VERMONT d. 1857 Hamilton Co IL
mar (Sarah) Vilaty UNK
b. UNK MA d. 1843 Hamilton Co IL
The name Munsell is spelled Munsel, Moncel, Muncel, Muncell, Monsil,
Munsil, Monselle, Munselle, etc
Ira is found in:
1820 census of Genesee Co NY (Middlebury)
1830 voting, land and census records of IL (esp Hamilton County IL)
1840 land records in IL
1850 land records in IL
One of Ira's sons is named Allen. An Allen Munsell is also found in an
early Genesee Co NY census. This could be an older relative (father?) of
We have solid records on Ira and his descendants after they came to
Illinois, but we have no solid information about Ira's exact place of
origin or his parents.
I know there were a lot of Munsells in Vermont in the late 18th century.
Ira named the sons of his first wife after patriots or military heroes
- I'm drawing a conclusion here... - (Henry, Allen, Harrison, Jackson,
Washington - and Richard, which doesn't fit the pattern) and his later
sons were named Jacob, Joseph, and Samuel. He had 14 children who grew to
adulthood. But I am unable to connect Ira to the many Munsells who
migrated from VERMONT to western NY and beyond. Ira bought his
land in Illinois outright - there seems to be no evidence it was a grant,
so he probably did not serve in the War of 1812.
If anyone has run across this name, and/or can suggest how best to pursue
this search I would be grateful. Perhaps there is a migratory pattern from
Vermont at the time that might be helpful information???? Or something???
Thanks for any help.

Hi, thanks for checking .. What made me think it was a fireman .. the
words on his hat say "Johnson Hose 1" and the words are written on
collar of jacket..Johnson on left side and Hose No.1 on right side.
It must have been some type of an award because the medal and ribbon has
S. F. E. CO
This fellow appears to be the same man or a very close sibling of a
picture I have numbered 5... taken by Winsor Studio of Olean,NY
On the Cattaraugus and Wyoming lists it would be in a different place.
The "fireman" picture was taken by Robbins Artistic Portraits in
Bradford, PA. On back is printed Robbins, cor. Main & Kennedy Sts.
Bradford, PA Artistic Photography..
Duplicates can be procured at any time. Negatives preserved.
Any one have any thoughts on this ID? Could be from Quigley, Linsey,
Geise, Morgan, or many other surnames.

I am looking for birth info (place, siblings, ancestry...) on Anson Sherwood,
b. circ 1793 in this county. Possibly in Orangeville. He married Polly Seeley
and I need a full list of their children as well. I think they may include:
Sherman, CHARLES, Malcolm, William CB, and more. If Charles is his son, I am
not sure who he married, but he had Malcolm Marion Sherwood, Belva, Perris
and another and I would like as much info as possible on his birth, wife, etc
as well. I have my line up to Malcolm Marion Sherwood. I have seen lines
down to Anson via Seths Sr. and Jr. I cannot prove a direct connection, but
Anson and Polly were on their farm with Charles and his children (Malcolm at
5 yrs) in 1850 in Bradford, McKeen, PA. It showed they were all born in NY.
Next door lived the Beardsleys and Charles' brother, Malcolm, also all born
in NY. My Malcolm eventually married a Beardsley as well and I have a LDS
file with her line going back to CT. through NY. One of my online cuzzies has
a photo album with some pictures, several labled but many not labeled, and
references to Arcade (or China), NY. We are all looking for the children and
grandchildren of Anson (3 of us from 3 separate lines). If you know
anything, you'd certainly be a hero in our books!
