I am looking for a Charles Cyrus Campbell, born in May 1850 in Canada,
lived in Upper Canada/Ontario and was possibly born there. His parents
were John or Charles Campbell and Margaret Mc(G)Laughlin, both born in
Ireland. In 1861 Charles Cyrus immigrated to the US, likely through
Buffalo. I don't know if he came with a relative or one or both of his
parents. I'm pretty sure he was in New York State (likely the western
half) in 1865 and likely in 1870 as well. By 1872 Charles was married
to Margaret O'Keefe (of Canandiagua, Ontario County) and they moved
around between Warren County PA and McKean County PA.

I have this family in my Hoisington database. Angeline's maiden name was
BOOMER and she was supposed to have been the daughter of a Baptist
clergyman who came from Canada.
I would like to hear from anyone researching BOOMER. I have lots of
information on the Hoisingtons (also spelled HORSINGTON, HOSINGTON and
HOSSINGTON in NY) that I would be happy to share.

Recently I replied to a query with information I found on a CD I own. This
has led to other requests from members of this mail list. While I happy to
do it, please be aware of the following:
The Wyoming County usgenweb site lists many people willing to do lookups from
a variety of sources for this area. Members of this mail list who haven't
yet taken advantage of this may want to check it out.
If you are requesting a lookup, please put WYOMING LOOKUP in the subject
line. Otherwise, I will probably delete it. Please do not forward someone
else's subject line to me ("RE:"). I will definitely delete that.
Please follow the copyright regulations which, unfortunately, are not clearly
stated on the website, but simply stated, it means that I can look up only
one specific name (a first name and a last name; two in the case of a
marriage lookup) per request. I can't look up entire families or all of one
surname. If, as in the case the other day, I find a few more family members,
I will let the requester know.
I, like all lookup volunteers, do have a life, so please be patient. It may
take me a few days to get back to you.

I see that you got many responses as to the location of Canandaigua, but were
you also inquiring about Anna Gillett and her family? I'm a Gillett
descendant and it just so happens that last week a cousin who lives in
Canandaigua sent me some information on the family. It mentions Anna Wooster.
If you're interested, I'll email it to you.

I was fortunate to finally see a copy of Beer's "History of Wyoming Co." last week at the Allen Co. Library in Ft. Wayne, IN. There was an article on my ancestor, DANIEL H. WOOSTER. It said he came from Canandaigua to Sheldon about 1808, where he was soon after married to ANNA GILLETT. Does anyone know where Canandaigua is or was? Thanks, Linda
Canandaigua is in Ontario County. It would be part of the Finger Lakes
Region, of which there is a Rootsweb list that can be subscribed to at
NYFingerLakes-L-request(a)rootsweb.com . It's a great list....VERY helpful,
but don't be offended when they call you a "flake"!!!! It's their
affectionate term for people with Finger Lakes heritage!!!

Just recieved informarion via ss application on
mothers parents need help find out more on them.
> Her parents are listed as Maurice Coughlin and
Catherine Huber. There known children Bernard Coughlin
(b)abt 1932, Ethel Mae Coughlin (b)1934 in Sheldon,
NY, and Francis Or Floyd Coughlin (b)1936.
> I know her brother Floyd was adopted in 1940 by
Floyd and Mary Braymiller from Arcade, NY.
> My mother Ethel Mae was not adopted via. choice, but
live with the Braymillers.
>Brother Bernard live a short time with Braymillers
then reportedly was sent to a work farm.
> I believe that Maurice Coughlin was born in 1895 and
died in July 1966, buried in Varyburg Cemetery,
> The information that has been handed down reports
that Maurice may have been institionalized.
> Catherine Huber the aboves wife had a drinking
problem and left her children unattended, and children
were taken away.
Would like help finding information on these people.
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.

I know you weren't asking for an official look-up, but I was doing others and
added yours to the list. This is what I found:
CD #183 "Early Settlers of NY State, 1760-1942" by Jane Foley, p. 246
The Baptist Church, Castile, Wyoming, NY
Gaston, Hannah & Susannah, d. 1844
Gaston, Philinda, d. 1842
Gaston, Marietta, d. 1830, all of Perry
While this isn't much, at least you now have a church affiliation.
I checked the census index and found several Bristols in Ontario County
(which included what was to become Wyoming) in 1810; no Gastons. In 1840,
there is a John Bristol listed in Castile, Genesee Co., NY.
Hope this helps.

List-folks: My great grandfather, Edmund Waite Gaston (b. 1809)
married (1834) my great grandmother, Phylinda Bristol (b. 1807). They
were married in Castile, NY. We have been trying for what seems like
forever to determine where Phylinda Bristol was born and who her
parents were. This is another 'shot-in-the-dark' in hopes of finding
someone who might come across some information about the Bristol
family in those parts of New York. We know that Phylinda had a twin
sister named Lucinda Bristol, and that Lucinda married a Mr. Stewart
(time and location unknown).
Would greatly appreciate any help.
Best regards to all

This past week I went to the Arcade Historical Society at the Gibby
House and I bought a book called Progress with a Past. There is no index
with it but an index had been made that the worker could look up names.
The book itself was only $3.00 and has some very interesting reading.
There are also other books available. The phone number for the
Historical Society is (716) 492-4466 and they are open Tuesday and
Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
