It's started to sprinkle outside so came in to hunt. I think I've found Marion
Kohler in 1930.
Do you know if her parents were named Otto & Gertrude?
Gertrude could also have been using the name Grace.
Or, since they were very new to the country, a neighbor could have been supplying the info
& botched it or the enumerator himself might not have understood what he was hearing
being that both Otto & his wife probably had rather thick accents & the enumerator
botched the name but Grace is the name on the census.
If Marion's parents were Otto & Grace/Gertrude then I've also found
Otto's petition for naturalization. Gertrude is what Otto gave on his naturalization
And he said his daughter was named Edith. Do you know Marion's full legal name? Was
she Edith Marion or maybe Marion Edith? Or maybe, like my great-grandfather's sister
who was not Marion officially, she just fancied the name Marion & used that.
Despite the name differences I think this is Marion Kohler's father petitioning for
naturalization. The addy on the petition is the same one I find the family at on the 1930
census & the DOB years on the petition correspond are spot on with the ages on the
Unfortunately, the family was renting in 1930 didn't stay put. They are not at the
same address in 1940, some other family is there. Until the 1940 census is indexed we
won't be able to find them.
