The program this month will be: Inside the New York City Archives with
presenter Commissioner Brian G. Andersson.
Mr. Andersson has been the Commissioner of New York Citys Department of
Records & Information Services since 2002.
He had served in the Giuliani Administration for 8 years, part of that time
as Assistant Commissioner.
He has raised the profile of the Department of Records, incorporating many
He is a genealogist and historian of note. His area of specialty is
immigration documentation and the period of the
mid-19th to mid-20th century, focusing on Port of New York arrivals (Castle
Garden 1855- 1890, the Barge
Office 1890-1991, and Ellis Island starting in January 1892.) He had served
as the Executive Director of the Ellis Island
Restoration Commission and is currently a member of CastleGarden.org
Mr. Andersson is a native and resident of Woodlawn Heights on the mainland
of New York City, The Bronx.
An Orientation session for beginners and newcomers will be held at 7 PM and
the regular meeting will start at 7:30.
We welcome all who are interested in researching their Germanic origins.
