I am new to Staten Island genealogy so I am posting who I am looking for
along with a question.
My first family is John Whiteside and Ellen Senior Whiteside who were living
at Castleton for the 1860 census. This census showed an infant, Martha.
They subsequently had a daughter, Mary Ann, in 1862. John died in 1864.
Ellen and Mary Ann were baptised at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, which I
believe was /is in Tompkinsville.
My other family is the Latourette family. My husband's line is Jean/Marie
Mercereau, Henry/Susanne Parlier, John/Elizabeth Bond, Marie/Matthias
Clickener, Elizabeth Clickener/William Emmons.
My question is, what is the name of Castleton now? I have seen references
that say it is now West Brighton and also Tompkinsville. I found a West New
Brighton and a Castleton Corners on a current road atlas. Are either of
these towns the same as Castleton in 1860?
