George Mooney, 70, a former resident of Danbury, native of Kent Cliffs and a Civl War
Veteran, committed suicide in Wooster cemetery, Danbury, by shooting himself in the left
temple with a revolver. While on the farm at Kent Cliffs, Mr. Mooney enlisted in 1862 at
the age of 18. He fought through the war, received several medals and after the war
returned to Kent Cliffs and later married Phoebe Williams. After her death he married
Anna Ridgeway, also of Kent Cliffs. He worked in tobacco factories for several years and
later opened a restaurant in Danbury. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert
Ingersoll, of Shelton, and Mrs. Jennie Floyd, of Waterbury; and one son, Oscar Mooney; a
half-siter, Mrs. John P. Williams of Kent Cliffs, also survives.
