Thank you for the info. Yes, Helen Monk was my grandmother and my father was Raymond
Frederick Hanyen. He past away July 1974.
I recently have applied for a passport as of Oct 13th and just today received a letter
from the U.S. Dept. of State passport agency that states that they need a certified copy
of my father's birth certificate, military records and school records prior to 1943 to
prove that he was a citizen of the U.S. I found out through the website of NY vital stats
that I need a court order to obtain a certified copy of his birth certificate.
The reason I believe I am having so much trouble is because my father met my mother Marie
Louise in France while he was stationed there in the Army and I was born in France. I
haven't any naturalization papers. My mother did become a citizen of the USA.
Now my problem is proving that my father is and has been a resident of New York since he
was born. Maybe you could help me with what direction I should take. Please free to
email me joanneh(a)aol.com
I originally wanted to just find out about my ancestors since the name Hanyen in the
western states is very rare.
Thanks again, Joanne
