I understand what you are saying Ed. I know in some other states the state library
appears to offer the remote access to others from out of state for a fee.
I guess the reason I was limiting the signers of the petition to NY Residents was because
since I am relating it to the taxes we pay here in New York and the Petition is being sent
to the New York State Library - if you want to sign on with your state of residence and
leave your comments much the same as you e-mailed me here explaining why you believe it
should be available to others from out of state perhaps for a fee go right ahead and be my
guest - Judy and I appreciate your support.

Am wondering why the petition is restricted to only NY residents. My wife,
born in NY, and I research her family "long distance" from here in
Washington state and I seriously doubt we are the only individuals
engaged in similar research efforts - she has several hundred living descendants
from common ancestors who still reside in the state from the various
majorlines in her family - most of whom do not do genealogical research but do
appreciate the efforts of the 3-4 known members of the family who take
the time and make the effort to research their ancestors.
