I don't seem to have anything right off that would help you confirm the
parents of Melissa Warren Hill.
I will keep my eyes open for you - it may be a while before I get back
to the 1884 film.
I did find in the1860 census for Philipstown (Lake Mahopac P O) a
Samuel and Barbara Warren with a Melissa age 13 which appears she would
be the right age to be your Melissa Warren Hill from her tombstone
inscription as listed in Old Gravestones of Putnam.
The Journal of the Rev. Silas Constant - Notes on the Warren Family does
say that Samuel Nelson Warren b. 1809 m. Barbara Underhill but it stops
there and doesn't give any children for them.
You have to watch those LDS records - often they are just information
submitted by other researchers and not always backed up by original
documentation. I would believe the the tombstone first and if all
possible you should try and contact the submitter of the LDS info.
Here's the link that will tell you how to send for a Death Certificate
in New York. The recording of vital statitics in NY started in 1880 so
the earliest records are a little sketchy but by 1885 they should have
had their house in order.

Telegraph July 1884
I am trying to find out who the parents were of my
Melissa Warren Hill. She died in Red Mills (Mahopac Falls) on July 7,
Her husband is listed on their gravestone in the Baptist cemetary in
Mahopac falls as Joseph Hill, dying July 29, 1884. In the LDS site
however, they list her as being married to James Henry Hill (who was
and died on the same days as her husband Jospeh Hill---leading me to
he changed his name for some reason.)
I have a feeling that she may be a daughter of Samuel Nelson Warren and
Barbara Underhill, but I can't find any verification.
Since you are looking at newspapers from right around the times of her
death, I was wondering if you have come across anything about her? Or
Joseph Hill in July 1884?
Do you know how I might go about getting copies of their death
(which might have their parents names listed)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
