Historical Background: -The Loyalist, John Ganong of the Westchester
Loyalists, settled near Oromocto, Queens Co., New Brunswick, in 1783.
He returned to NY & my assumption is that his children left with him.
This leaves Thomas Ganong, also a Loyalist. He was from Lake Mahopac
in NE Westchester Co. & went to N.B. in 1783 to live on the Kingston
peninsula in Kings Co. His son, Daniel, married Deborah Kierstead &
their descendants include the family that founded first, the St. Croix
[River] soap company. They are better known today as the founders of
Ganong's Chocolates. While I may be prejuduced (their HQ is in my
birthplace, St. Stephen, NB), anyone would be hard pressed to find
better tasting chocolates.
