Dear Orleans County List,
Can anyone tell me if the Holley Inn is still standing? In the 1920s and 30s it was a
beautiful three story building built of the famous Orleans County sandstone and was
located on the "Million Dollar Highway."
If it is still standing, what is the current address? One of my relatives, Howard E. Boddy
was the proprietor back then. Before 1920 he also operated, with his brother Paul G.
Boddy, the White's Hotel in Medina. Later, they ran the Ridgeway Hotel in Ridgeway,
which IS still standing or was a few years back when I drove by and photographed it. In
the mid-30's Howard bought and ran the Murray Hotel in Murray, which I heard burned
down some years back.
Howard Boddy was a fantastic chef and was really renowned in the area for his "famous
chicken dinners." Does anyone (or their aged parents) remember Howard and Paul?
Howard was married to Mary Deitrich who was born in Canada and Paul was married to a
native of Medina, Veronica McNally Benz, whose first husband died. Neither brother had
children. Both were born in Wyoming County, New York, Howard in 1879 and Paul in 1888.
Howard is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery near Holley and Paul is buried in an unmarked
grave at Boxwood Cemetery near Medina.
Would love to hear from anyone with memories of these hotel keepers or the hotels they
Thank you. Sincerely, Patricia Boddy Tharp
