I just joined! Happy to be here and hoping to learn
more about the early history of the county with
regards to some ancestors of mine with the following
Matice (or Mattice)
Vroman (or Vrooman)
Swart (or Swaert)
I am a g-grandson of Nicholas A. Matice and Nancy
Vroman Matice of Shelby, NY. They were born in
Schoharie, Albany County. Nicholas was a son of Adam
Mattice and Nancy Swart Mattice. His dates are
1777-1861. Of his children, his daughter Caroline
Matice (b. ca 1824) is my g-grandmother--she married a
Prentiss (or Prentice) Thompson in Shelby in 1844.
Caroline had two sisters in Shelby: Nancy (d. 1843)
and Catherine (d. bef. 1875). There were other
children b. before 1820 in Schoharie. I believe
Nicholas settled in Shelby ca. 1819.
What info might y'all have on this family? From the
Web I have noted the Fletcher Chapel Cemetery records.
These have been helpful! Still, I'd like to learn more
about them--their movements, vitals, fates, etc.?
Best wishes, John
