Do you or your parents (or grandparents) remember the Boddy brothers? Howard
and Paul Boddy? They were hotel men in Orleans County up until their deaths,
1954 and 1949 respectively.
I have collected a great deal of data, it's the stories I am after!
They both started out in Medina at the White's Hotel (now NAPA Parts store)
in the 19-teens. Through the kindness of others I have received some great
photos and articles of this place.
Then, they partnered running the Ridgeway Hotel at Ridgeway for some time.
Then Paul ran it alone, although I believe he and his wife, Veronica
(McNally) Benz Boddy continued to live in Medina.
Howard and Mary (Deitrich) Boddy then operated the Holley Inn in the early
1920s, then the Murray Hotel (Sandy Creek), back to the Holley Inn and back
again to the Murray Hotel. It's all rather confusing even with the deeds.
Some of those years they were only managers and some of those years they
were the actual owners. I do have some wonderful photographs of them in
front of these places. During his years in the hotel business Howard was
known far and wide for his accomplishments as a great chef and for the meals
he served at his hotels.
Howard and Mary Boddy retired in the mid-1940s and lived in Holley. Iv'e
heard that Howard prepared many a fabulous and famous Annual BBQ Chicken
Dinner for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holley. Both are buried at Holy
Anything an elderly friend or relative might relate would be gratefully
Sincerley, Patricia Boddy Tharp
