I just received an obit for my husband's great grandmother, Louise Gell
Dumbleton, who died November of 1937. In the obit, it lists a brother, Hermon
Weber of Holley, NY.
Is anyone researching this family (Weber) in Orleans County?
Thanks so much!
Your question is about any County in the state. Yes, I have look
through some voter registration books for Buffalo on the open shelves in
the Buffalo & Erie County public library located downtown at Lafayette
Square. I just did a search of the library catalogue and it shows these
books for a variety of year 1919 through 1961.
enter "buffalo voter registration"
set search type to Advanced Keyword ... any words joined with AND, OR or NOT
Hope this helps

My 2nd great-granduncle, William Ira Mann (1834-1874), was buried in Kent
Cemetery, Town of Carlton, Orleans Co., NY. Next to his gravestone I found a GAR
spike (flagholder) which is usually placed near the graves of Civil War
I searched for an Orleans County record of William Mann's service in the
Civil War but have not been able to discover when/where he served or with what
unit. Family tradition states William went "out west" for a time and then
returned to Holley where he operated the Mansion House for a time. Perhaps William
Mann served with the Union Army out west.
I am trying to contact the person who places GAR flagholders near the
gravesites of Civil War veterans, in Orleans County, NY. I am hoping this person
would know something about William Mann's service record. Another researcher told
me that a county resident named Jean Johnston or Jean Johnson may know
something about the flagholder placement.
Any help with this endeavor would be much appreciated.
