My family brick wall is haunting me, because it is also a family mystery. I
have joined both Ancestry.com
and searched the LDS
genealogy site as well as the Internet in general.
My ancestor, Barney Cutter married a woman named Hannah Comstock.Their
children were born in Watertown in 1803 (Isaac) and 1805 (twins Emily and
Clarinda, aka Cindy or Lucinda) Hannah died when the children were young,
and Barney took them to Ohio and bound them out because he didn't get along
with his wife's parents. He promised them he would return as soon as he
settled his estate and set up a new home for them in Ohio. He was never
heard from again.
It has been assumed by family genealogists that Barney was Barnabas Cutter
who was born in 1766 in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, but in the 1880 census
their daughter listed her father's birthplace as New York and her mother's
birthplace as Massacheusetts.
There is also a reference to Barney being from Herkimer County.
I have read that Watertown's pre-1805 records were burned. Is there any hope
of documenting birth and death dates for this family, or should I just give
up? Where would a likely burial place be for Hannah?
Thanks so much,
