Richard,
I should have said that for this season for my family I will be
thankful we are all together and alive. Our oldest son and oldest
daughter were with me at the time,
It was our son's 20th birthday. Our daughter was fretting over a cut
that ran from her hairline down the right side of her face to just
below her right eye from the airbag deployment. I told her, hey
you've got street cred now. Folks will be wary to mess with you!
Our driver, the reason we were there, graduated the next day from
Arizona State University. Thankful too, that other than some soreness
she too was spared what have could so easily have gone the other way.
That night, alone in my bedroom, about to turn out the lights the
thought dawned on me, how fortunate I was, that I could have been
laying in a storage drawer in some morgue. At that point, I decided
not to turn out the light but read until I would fall asleep fast.
It was a stark reminder of how quickly life can turn.
