Does this family mean anything to you?
My wife's grandfather, Ira Wall Jordan, b. 1 May 1874, Delhi, Delaware,
New York; d. 1 May 1936, Port Ewen, Ulster, New York.
Ira's father, John W. Jordan, b, abt Aug 1844, New York State (per 1900
US Census, Franklin, Delaware, New York).
Ira's mother, Mary E. Wall, b. abt 1852, New York City (per obit).
In the 1880 census, I found no Ira Jordan within hundreds of miles of
Delaware County, but there is an Ira Wall of the correct age in Delhi,
living with David and Ellen Packard. And Mary Wall, age 26, and single,
is shown in Delhi living and working as cook in a hotel kept by C.B.
Griffis. John Jerdon, age 35, is living with and working as a servant
for Dr. J.H. Foote in Franklin, Delaware County.
In the 1900 census, John W. and Mary E. Jordan are living in Franklin,
Delaware County, and shown as being married 20 years. Ira, 26 or 27
years old now is gone from the household. Living with John and Mary is
John's brother Nathan, age 73.
I'm trying to learn whether John W. Jordan is really the father of Ira,
as is believed by the family, in which case John and Mary apparently
married several years after the birth of the son - or did John marry
Mary Wall and adopt her son, Ira?
Thanks for any information you may have,
