Help! I am at a brick wall.
I can't prove that Cornelius Bassett and his wife Elizabeth Cushing had
a daughter Joanna b abt 1826 in Delaware Co. NY. She married Searing J.
Tompkins in 1842. I have that proof and their burial.
I have the research notes of two people, but they don't give any
reference to document the connection. I can't find a christening
record. I can't find his death nor a will.
One bio sketch says Cornelius is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in
Tarrytown NY. They don't have him listed as buried there.
He is on the 1820, 1830, 1840 Fed Census in Andes, Delaware Co NY. He
served as Town Clerk and Supervisor in Andes 1820-1830. I can't seem to
find anything in the county or city records which help.
He is on the 1850 and 1860 Fed census in Buffalo Twshp, Ogle Co. Ill. I
can't find him buried there.
He served in the NY Assembly in Albany in 1837-1837. The only record on
that political assignment says he served, no further information on him.
He married his second wife in 1838. I have that information.
I have the DAR application for his great granddaughter through a son
George in Tenn. This same George is on the 1850 Fed Census Westchester
Co. NY with Joanna, but there is no statement he is her brother or the
relationship to her husband Searing J. Tompkins the head of household
I have the death record of one daughter in Delaware Co, Nynand the obit
of another daughter in Iowa.
I know that Joanna is the daughter of Cornelius and Elizabeth. I just
can't prove it. When I do, this line will take be to Ebenezer Bassett
and his father Cornelius Bassett a Revolutionary War Patriots, and then
back to the Fortune of 1621 and to the Mayflower 1620. So you see why I
want this proof.
Thanks for reading the epistle.
