I understand your frustration but keep in mind that until the 1850
federal census, the children were not listed. I'm sorry if I'm
suggesting the obvious, but do you know where Joanna died? When you say
you have all the documents, do you have a death certificate for her?
That might give the name of the parents and would provide some further
Beyond that it seems to me at this point, your best bet concerning
Cornelius is either a will or an obituary, and the latter isn't too
likely to give a list of children. Another long shot, but one that
worked for me once, is to check deeds for property Cornelius owned. I
found a deed that was related to an estate settlement. While there was
nothing in the surrogate court, the deed gave family connections.
One other tact might be to track down the other children you have as
being children of Cornelius. If one of them died without children, their
will may list surviving siblings or nieces and nephews as possible heirs.
If you can connect one of the other of Cornelius's children as actually
being a sibling of Joanna, then you could try to find records on this
