It is for real but with a few problems. I sent for one and after a couple of
weeks got my check back saying they couldnt find it. I called them and was
told that the database doesnt always match up spelling wise to whatever they
check. Whoever searchers has to try other spellings if they feel like it. I did
send for another and got it. Basically its one page with a basic service record.
By the way when I called they did put me on hold and check for the record and
did find it with a spelling error.

I tried the following link that a fellow lister put in a recent posting:
I got to the NYS Archives page, clicked on the Civil War Database and
entered my ancestor's name. When I got to the page where I could order
info, there is a "Print this page" link at the top right...when I
clicked this, I got an error message. I tried it for a couple of other
names too, with the same result.
Has anyone out there tried this too, and had the same problem? Also,
has anyone used this service? Could the $3.00 fee really be true?
