I'm working on Sullivan County (which, as you suggest, is no walk in
the park). I'm not sure if I have collected any Dobells yet
(although I did go to school with one in Liberty in the 1950s) but I
keep indexing Sullivan County things and adding them to my website --
, so if there is nothing there yet
there will probably be eventually. It has a "search this website"
capability that is fairly comprehensive. Candidly, my real objective
is to sell CD-ROMs with the scarce Sullivan County info on, but
hopefully the indexes that I post will help people tell if they are
looking in the right place to begin with.
I'm continually impressed by the way you Delaware County folks seem
to be able to work together to collect ans share the records of your
County. It's a good example for many counties where that doesn't
seem to happen!

Subject: [NYDELAWA-L] Dobell
Elizabeth Hanna Dobell and her two brother's Cyrus and Mott were
Guardianship by the Surrogate court in Chemung Co., NY to families in
Delaware Co., seeking information as to Guardians and if they were
family. Time period from 1871 to 1892 the papers on these
have signatures that are less than legible for legal documents. Mott
Cyrus appear to have slipped into Sullivan Co., after being freed
guardians, and as anyone researching in Sullivan Co., knows that is a
