Sandy, thank you so much for this! I did not have a death date or place for Walter J.
Smith. It was so kind of you to look this up, and is much appreciated!

Subject: Walter J & Lela SMITH
What do you mean by "old cemetery at Oneonta"? I have compiled the
records and read the tombstones for Riverside, Oneonta Plains and Glenwood cemeteries in
Oneonta and I found the following in Oneonta Plains:
Smith, (Lela K) 1882-1963 (12/4)
Smith, (Walter J) 1876-1953 d Feb 9
date in ( ) is usually the burial date.

Yes, that sounds like the Walter J I have for my husband's great
grandfather. Walter lived in Davenport and I was told he is buried in the
old cemetery at Oneonta. Does this make sense? I think he died in the
1960's. As far as Lela, I don't know much about her either. I do know that
Walter ran a general store as well. I will dig up more info on this Smith
line (that I know) so I can post more info to see if anyone else can help
Thanks, Patti Smith
Patti - when was your Walter J. born, and where did he live? I have a
Walter J. Smith born in 1878 who lived in Davenport connected to my large
Smith family. There was also a Dibble connection.
