Patti, Polly and Bonnie,
I haven't been on the list, but this message came to me through PML on the
name Gaddis. I've read through the messages pertaining to this thread and
might be able to shed a little light. I haven't done much Smith research,
mostly gathered information from others as things come through since I work
full time and the Smith line was such a huge one.
Patti, you mentioned that there was a Fox/Crittenden tie in the line. I'm
not sure about through the Smith line, but there is through the Gaddis
line. Catherine Gaddis, first wife of William Smith was the daughter of
John Gaddis and Chloe Fox. Chloe Fox's mother was Chloe Crittenden.
There was a double Smith/Gaddis connection, also. William Smith married
Catherine Gaddis and John B Smith, his brother, married Catherine's sister,
Chloe Fox Gaddis.
I do not have a copy of the will, but was told some years ago that William
Smith's will states that his heirs were Mary Smith, wife; Irving Smith,
son; Walter J Smith, son; Cora Harrison, daughter. Mary D and Irving were
the executors. It stated that Cora was of Laurens, Otsego, NY and that
the other three lived in Davenport Center. The records further appointed
Barnial (sp?) Johnson of Andes, NY as guardian of Walter J
Smith. Somewhere I've got a photo of William and Catherine's stone from
one of my trips to Delaware County.
So, from the will, it doesn't look like there were any more children. Not
sure what other information you might be looking for, but I'm willing to
share whatever I have on these branches.
Also, Bonnie, I would be interested in what you have on the Smith line if
you don't mind.
Hope this helps some.

Patti & Polly,
Yes, this Walter J. Smith's father was William P. Smith b.July 26, 1822
d.Aug. 10, 1893 buried Davenport Cemetery. William was first married to
Catherine Gaddis b.Oct. 5, 1843 d.Jan. 13, 1887 also buried Davenport
Cemetery. I believe she was the mother of Cora E. b.1864, Irving b.1870,
and Walter J. b.Oct. 11, 1876 or 78. I don't know if there were other
William married 2nd Mary Devoe Dibble b.May 17, 1842, d.Nov. 29, 1935.
I have a lot more info on William and his family going back to the original
Palatine immigrant. What do you need?
